A four-stroke engine with improved driving performance, projected into less fuel consumption, which can be as much as 40% compared to two-stroke engines with fuel injection at the same power output. Mercury F40 EFI is primarily designed for lighter boats, but it is also proven on heavier craft. However, it is also important to select a propeller for a specific boat size. The engine is equipped with ''Engine guardian system'' that detects the problem and protects the engine from damage. The engine includes a remote control and a rev counter. High-displacement, four-cylinder, single-overhead-cam design delivers optimum power and a smooth ride. Great for aluminum tiller, aluminum console, inflatable rigid hull (RIB) and soft hull, watersports, and fish & ski boats.

Increased thrust is delivered by a 2.00:1 gear ratio with 44% larger gears. The desmodromic shifting is ultra-smooth.
